Hello people and welcome.
The world of Scottish football is a fantastic place brimming with great characters, fierce rivalry, passionate fans, unbelievable drama and a healthy side portion of humour and bampottery.
Forget the cash-fuelled excess of the Premiership or the scintillating skills of La Liga, if you’re looking for last-minute title deciders, fairytale progression through the leagues and enough conspiracy theories to satisfy him off the X-Files, Scottish football’s the place to be.
Hopefully this blog will capture some of the above and provide topics for debate, and although the main focus is on Scotland, I’ll no doubt have a few things to say on the goings-on south of the border as well as further afield.
Here’s hoping for a good season.

As much as i love your enthusiam for our national league i have to disagree with this paragraph: The world of Scottish football is a fantastic place brimming with great characters, fierce rivalry, passionate fans, unbelievable drama and a healthy side portion of humour and bampottery.

In my opinion the EssPeeHell is a 2 horse race for the title every year, fair enough you may get the odd season where the title goes down to the last day of the season 01/02 or 04/05 for example but apart from the race to become the worlds most successful club team the positions occupied below the top two are generally made up of Hearts, Aberdeen and Hibs. THen you have you usual 'Safe' teams such as Kilmarnock, Motherwell, Falkirk, Dundee United then the two battling out to beat the drop who usually consist of the newest team to Scotlands elite and a random non performer, eg. Dunfermline or the Inconsistent Dunfermline. I'm afraid i'm going to have to cut this short but give me the the last day drama of this years La Liga, (any team from three on the last day) and the ever strengthening Premiership with teams like Tottenham, Arsenal and Liverpool more than likely to compete at a higher standard this year and gatecrash the premierships 'Big Two' SPL pretenders(Man U & Chelsea respectively)any day. As for characters, passion and rivalry, well i'll leave that for another day.
Scobi,
Let's face it, most of the top leagues are two-horse races.
I fear you've fell for the hype and marketing of the Premiership!
I would admit La Liga is definitely something special and is probably the best in the world for entertainment and quality.
However, for a country our size I think we have a league and clubs to be proud of.
Let's face it, the Premiership is a two-horse race and will be for the next few years. The relegation battle is usually the most exciting aspect of it, which probably tells its own story. Take out Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool and you've got distinctly average teams. Look how well a club like Bolton has done over the past few years, and I think they'd do well to finish third in the SPL.
I think we should talk up our league and be rightly proud of the SPL.
Hi
A bit late to comment here (but where else to put it).
Looks like a great blog, I'll be following this to keep up-to-date with the latest developments in the SPL ;)
So keep up the good work!
Cheers from Belgium.
